What is Occu-smart?
Occu-smart Technology is the result of years of research into ultrasonic motion sensing technology and bi-level electronic ballasts. In conjunction with Watt Stopper, one of the leading motion sensor companies, and NYSERDA, the New York State Energy Research Development Authority, Lamar Lighting has combined a unique, internally mounted ultrasonic motion sensor with state of the art electronic ballasts, in an attractive wall or ceiling mounted luminaire. The motion sensor is actually built into the fixture, and is almost unnoticeable. Occu-smart fixtures are ideally suited for stairwells and other seldom used areas, where full light output is not needed on a constant basis.

How It Works?
Occu-smart fixtures are always on stand-by, offering a low level of light for safety and security, insuring that no one is ever left in the dark. The extremely sensitive motion sensor picks up any movement, including a stairwell door opening, and instantaneously switches the lighting from the standby level to full light output. The dwell time is user selectable, as is the sensitivity. When properly installed, no one will even know that you are saving energy when the stairwells are unoccupied. When equipped with optional emergency battery backup, occu-smart fixtures are UL listed as "Emergency Lighting and Power Equipment" (UL924)*.

Why do I need it?
We all know that most stairwells in office buildings, apartment buildings, hotels, dormitories, and hospitals are seldom used, yet these areas are constantly lit, wasting energy 24 hours a day. By offering full light output only when the spaces are occupied, energy consumption is drastically reduced. In fact, a 4' 2 lamp T8 occu-smart fixture consumes only 13 watts during standby, yet offers the added benefit of abundant light output, allowing occupants to easily use the often under lit stairwells.
